German government plans to limit the installation of offshore wind farms in the period between 2021 and 2025 to 3.1GW and hold a tender for 1.7GW of offshore wind in 2017 and 1.4GW in 2018 to adjust the offshore wind development to that of the high-voltage transmission grid, according to Reuters.
Previously, it was agreed that two offshore wind tenders with a total capacity of 2.92GW would be held in 2017. The new move is part of a latest amendment to the country’s energy agreement, which needs to be approved by the European Union (EU).
According to the revised agreement, new offshore wind capacity added in 2021 should be built in the Baltic Sea as the appropriate grid is already available there, and from 2026, a new capacity of 840MW would be added every year to enable reaching the 15GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
