Becker Marine Systems denied media reports that the LNG hybrid barge “Hummel” is not working at full capacity at the port of Hamburg.
Henning Kuhlmann, managing director of Becker Marine noted that, “contrary to reports published elsewhere, Hummel is working smoothly and at full capacity.”
Becker Marine said the LNG hybrid barge is providing power to the AIDAsol cruise ship during the vessel’s eight-hour layovers without interruptions, at the HafenCity terminal.
By October, AIDAsol will have called in at the HafenCity terminal fifteen times in total, receiving environmentally-friendly power from the LNG hybrid barge during its layover.
Last year already, its first cruise season, the floating power plant used its liquefied natural gas systems to supply power during eleven layovers.
However, the “inflexible restrictions remain a source of annoyance,” Kuhlmann said, noting that the test phase is taking this long due to the restrictions imposed on Becker Marine rather than technical capabilities.
Brueau Veritas is scheduled to conduct a general certification procedure according to the International Electronic Consortium standard on the alternative system of a landside power plant, even though all components on the barge have already been certified.
