Finland’s first LNG terminal to get commissioning cargo

Skangas, a unit of Gasum on Thursday informed the commissioning cargo for its Pori LNG terminal will be delivered over the coming weekend aboard the Coral Energy.

Skangas, a unit of Gasum on Thursday informed the commissioning cargo for its Pori LNG terminal will be delivered over the coming weekend aboard the small-scale LNG carrier Coral Energy.

Coral Energy loaded a cargo and departed from the Fluxy’s-operated Zeebrugge LNG terminal in Belgium on Tuesday and it is heading towards the Pori LNG facility, data by the Port of Zeebrugge shows.

According to Skangas, Finland’s first LNG terminal at the oil and chemical harbor Tahkoluoto in the Port of Pori will begin commercial operations in September.

Skangas invested €86 million in the Pori LNG import terminal in order to strengthen the Finnish LNG infrastructure. The company was additionally granted €23 million by the Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy.

The project will provide liquefied natural gas for shipping and Finnish industries currently dependent on fuel oil and liquefied petroleum gas in the Satakunta region.

The terminal area comprises a 30,000 cbm LNG storage tank, loading docks, process units, flare torch, three loading docks for road tankers, a transformer building and a heat production unit.

Gasum, noted in its statement that, together with its unit Skangas, it will present the project during two open houses in July.

In addition, the company said a number of LNG fueling stations will be open in Finland with the Pori station scheduled to open in the summer of 2017.
