Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up installation vessel Brave Tern has arrived in St. Nazaire in western France, with the process of loading the GE Renewable Energy’s Haliade 150-6MW nacelles for the Block Island Wind Farm to begin shortly.

“This is an exciting project to be working on and we look forward to working closely with GE and Deepwater Wind to safely and efficiently install the first offshore wind farm in America,” said Head of Commercial and Projects, Even Larsen .

Brave Tern is the largest offshore wind jack-up vessel to make port in France, Fred. Olsen Windcarrier said.

After the load-out, the vessel will transit across the Atlantic to install the turbines at Block Island wind farm before returning to Europe. The turbine installation is scheduled to start by the beginning of August.

Fred. Olsen-related company Global Wind Service (GWS) have been awarded the contract for lift supervision and installation of the GE Renewable Energy’s Haliade 150-6MW wind turbines.

Brave Tern has also been fitted with the ZephIR Lidar 300 to complement the onboard technology with delivery of real-time wind information.
