The Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has certified TenneT as the offshore grid operator.

The supervisory body said it has issued the certification in a short time, so that the Minister of Economic Affairs can now designate TenneT as the official operator of the offshore grid and the company can start construction of the network which will connect future wind farms installed at the North Sea to the national grid.

ACM has determined that TenneT meets the so-called unbundling requirements, meaning that the company does not carry out activities for the production of energy, but only transports it.

In March, the Dutch Senate approved the amendment of the Electricity Act that confirms TenneT’s role as the developer and operator of the offshore grid, after the Senate rejected the so-called “Stroom” bill in December 2015, which caused a delay in the legislative decision-making process and jeopardized the timely completion of the grid connections for the first offshore wind farms in the Borssele zone.
