San Diego-based Sempra Energy and Australia’s Woodside plan to file their application for the Port Arthur LNG project in September 2016.
According to the United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s recently released update on its environmental analysis for the Port Arthur liquefaction and pipeline projects, it expects to complete the review of current applications by September. This would allow the two companies to advance the project.
Earlier in February, the Sempra Energy and Woodside signed an agreement to advance the development of the liquefaction project.
It would involve the construction of an LNG export terminal and a marine facility, and the Port Arthur pipeline project would involve the construction of about 35 miles of new 42-inch-diameter pipeline to provide natural gas supply to the LNG facilities.
The proposed Port Arthur LNG liquefaction project, located at a site previously permitted for an LNG regasification terminal along the Sabine-Neches ship channel, initially would be designed to include two natural gas liquefaction trains with a total export capability of approximately 10 mtpa. It also includes LNG storage tanks and marine facilities for LNG ship berthing and loading.
The project obtained approval from the U.S. Department of Energy to export up to 10 mtpa of domestically produced LNG to all current and future Free Trade Agreement countries.
