Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up installation vessel Brave Tern has reached a halfway point in its journey to deliver five GE Renewable Energy’s Haliade 150-6MW nacelles from Saint Nazaire, France, to the site of the first ever US offshore wind farm – the 30MW Block Island.

The update on the journey was shared by Jeff Grybowski, CEO of Deepwater Wind, the company which is the owner and operator of the Block Island wind farm.

The nacelles were loaded onto Brave Tern on July 18, and the vessel started its journey shortly after. The vessel is expected to reach its destination and start installing the turbines in early August.

Fred. Olsen-related company Global Wind Service (GWS) is in charge of lift supervision and installation of the wind turbines.

The wind farm is situated around 3 miles south-east of Block Island, Rhode Island, and is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2016.
