The image above shows Gener8 Oceanus, a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) being built for crude oil shipping company Gener8 Maritime, before its launching at the South Korean Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries’ (HSHI) shipyard last weekend.
The 300,000 dwt Gener8 Oceanus is one of 21 ECO VLCCs featuring eco engines, which will be added to the company’s fleet.
The vessel is slated for delivery in September this year.
Eight vessels, including Gener8 Oceanus, will join the company’s fleet in 2016, with two more vessels expected in 2017.
As of July 27, Gener8 Maritime has a fleet of 45 wholly-owned vessels on a fully-delivered basis. Gener8’s fleet is comprised of 10 VLCC newbuilds and 35 vessels on the water, according to the company’s data.
