Wilson Sons Ultratug Offshore, a joint venture (JV) between the Brazilian shipbuilding company, Wilson Sons and Chilean services provider Ultramar, has taken delivery of the Damen platform supply vessel (PSV) 5000.

Damen said on Friday that the vessel was built at the Wilson Sons shipyard in Guaruja, Brazil. The company also said that this was the first delivery of a two-vessel contract with the second vessel due for completion later this year.

Damen Sales Manager Americas, Rutger Dolk , said: “For this vessel, and the one still under construction, we provided the full engineering package in addition to certain key materials.”

The vessel is 85.25 meters long with a 19-metre beam and it is to be known as Larus. It has a 920sqm deck area and a traveling gantry crane along the work deck.

Damen stated that, regarding Wilson Sons Ultratug Offshore’s contract with Petrobras, the vessel acquisition is part of the sixth round of the Program for the Renovation of the Offshore Support Fleet (Prorefam). The initial requirement for vessels equivalent to the PSV 4500 was upgraded after Wilson Sons Ultratug Offshore decided to invest in the PSV 5000.

Dolk added: “These vessels have expressly been made larger. The design will make them as versatile as possible – ready to serve the oil and gas industry for the next 25 years.”
