Dr. Charles Boustany has received a favorable Chief’s Report from the United States Army Corps of Engineers for the Southwest Coastal Louisiana Feasibility Study.

The report recommends over $3 billion in projects to reinforce, rebuild and protect the coastal communities of Calcasieu, Cameron and Vermilion Parishes from future hurricane and storm surge destruction.

“Since Hurricane Rita swept through coastal Louisiana, leaving devastation in its wake, I have worked to ensure that our coastal communities are protected from future natural disasters ,” said Boustany.

“I am thankful for the collaboration of the Corps, CPRA and all stakeholders on this study, and I will remain vigilant in working to authorize and fund these critical projects.”

The signed Chief’s Report recommends over $3 billion in projects for Calcasieu, Cameron and Vermilion Parishes, stating that the recommendations are “technically sound, environmentally and socially acceptable, cost effective and economically justified.”

Following word of the favorable Chief’s Report, Dr. Boustany sent a letter to both the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure urging they include the report’s recommendations in the language of their respective 2016 Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) legislation.

Once the report’s recommendations are congressionally authorized and enacted, these projects will be eligible for federal funding.
