Shell Petroleum Development Company, a Nigerian unit of Shell has declared force majeure on gas supplies to the giant Nigeria LNG export facility located on Bonny Island.
“The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd (SPDC) declared force majeure on gas supply to NLNG on 8 August 2016, following a leak on the Eastern Gas Gathering System (EGGS-1) pipeline through which it supplies the bulk of its gas to NLNG,” an SPDC spokesman said in an emailed statement on Wednesday
“The pipeline has been shut down for a joint investigation visit into the cause of the leak and repairs,” the spokesman said.
SPDC continues to supply gas to NLNG through other pipelines.
The Bonny Island facility currently has six trains in operation with a total capacity of some 22 mtpa of LNG.
NLNG is a joint venture compromised of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC (49%), Shell (25.6%), Total (15%), and Eni (10.4%).
