China’s shipbuilder Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry held a steel cutting ceremony for a 38,000 dwt stainless steel chemical tanker being built for its compatriot shipping company Sinochem Shipping.
The steel cutting, conducted on August 8, was for a vessel classified by LR and CCS, the shipbuilder added.
According to data provided by VesselsValue, the shipyard is scheduled to deliver the tanker to its owner in July 2017. The vessel’s market value is set at USD 48.1 million.
Sinochem Shipping operates 55 vessels, including 53 tankers, one bulk carrier and one multi-purpose vessel, featuring a total of over 2.4 million dwt.
The company also has nine chemical tankers currently under construction, seven of which are being built by Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry, while the other two are under construction at Japan’s Fukuoka Shipbuilding.
All newbuilds are scheduled to join the company’s fleet in 2016 and 2017.
