Houston-based LNG export player Cheniere expects to ship first cargo from the second train at its Sabine Pass liquefaction and export plant by the end of August.
The U.S. company confirmed in its latest Sabine Pass construction report that Train 2 first cargo is expected to occur in late August, with substantial completion at the end of September. Train 2 started producing the chilled fuel on July 27.
Cheniere shipped the first cargo from Sabine Pass Train 1 in February this year. Substantial completion of Train 1 was completed on May 27 with first commercial delivery expected to occur in November when the 20-year LNG sales and purchase agreement with Shell commences.
According to the July report, Train 3 is expected to be completed in June next year.
“Train 4 progress will be monitored over the coming months for any potential impact to the August 2017 substantial completion target,” Cheniere said.
As previously reported, Cheniere plans to shut down the liquefaction facility in September to conduct maintenance and “address flare performance.”
The Sabine Pass liquefaction facility is the first of its kind to export abundant U.S. shale gas to overseas markets.
Cheniere is developing and constructing up to six liquefaction trains at Sabine Pass. Each train is expected to have a nominal production capacity of about 4.5 mtpa of LNG.
