Nova Innovation, which is developing the Shetland Tidal Array project together with Belgian renewable energy company ELSA, has installed and connected the second tidal turbine at the project site, with both turbines now producing power.

“Nova Innovation deploys the world’s first fully operational offshore tidal array, with the first two turbines up and running in the Shetland Tidal Array,” the company wrote on its social media pages.

The first device was installed at the site in Bluemull Sound in February and became fully operational this spring .

This is the first phase of the Shetland Tidal Array, which will have a total of three 100kW Nova M100 turbines, with more turbines planned in the following phases.

“We are absolutely delighted to be the first company in the world to deploy a fully operational tidal array,” BBC quotes Simon Forrest , Nova Innovation’s managing director, as saying.
