Eni of Italy informed the Zohr 5x well, the fifth well in the Zohr natural gas structure has been drilled to the final depth of 4,350 meters.
The well is located in 1,538 m of water depth and 12 Km south-west from the discovery well Zohr 1x, the company said on Thursday.
The well proved the presence of a carbonatic reservoir and gas accumulation also in the South-Western part of the Zohr mega-structure encountering about 180 metres of continuous hydrocarbon column with ‘excellent reservoir characteristics’, according to Eni.
The results are confirming the potential of the Zohr field at 30 Tcf original gas in place.
The data collected during the production test confirmed the deliverability of the Zohr reservoir, in line with the Zohr 2 well test, producing more than 50 mmscfd limited only by the constraints of the drilling ship production facilities.
In the production configuration, the well is estimated to deliver up to 250 mmscf per day.
The drilling campaign will continue in 2016 with the drilling of the sixth in order to fast-track the start-up of the production rate of 1 bcf per day, with first gas expected by the end of 2017.
Eni holds a 100 percent stake in the Shorouk Block through the IEOC Production unit. The operation of the block is handled by Petrobel, on behalf of Petroshorouk company, a joint venture between IEOC and the state company Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).
