Vroon Offshore Services (VOS) has started cooperating with the German-based Rhenus Offshore Logistics on the provision of offshore supply services to wind farms on the German Continental Shelf.
According to the agreement, Vroon is in charge of delivering bulk, containerised and project cargo to wind farm offshore substations off Germany, the company announced via social media.
The operations are performed out of the Port of Emden, where Vroon was invited to take part into the opening ceremony of a new 40,000 square meter quay on 29 August, 2016.
Holger Banik, Director of Niedersachsen Ports, Emden port’s operator, said: “It took one year and the costs were substantial, but it is done. A nearly one kilometre-long section of the South Quays has been transformed from a pure bulk cargo terminal to a state-of-the-art multi-purpose terminal.”
Two Vroon ships were involved in the event. The VOS Prime, freshly returned from a cargo run, was moored next to VOS Star, engaged in walk-to-work and offshore accommodation services during the commissioning of a new offshore substation in German waters.
The Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, Daniela Behrens, inaugurated the quay by starting crane operations to discharge cargo from VOS Prime to the quayside.
The inauguration was followed by a tour on VOS Prime, where vessel’s crew gave an insight of the services Vroon is delivering to the renewable industry.
