More than 4,400 gallons of oily-water mixture have been recovered following an oil spill from a pipeline near Bay Long, Louisiana, which occurred on September 5.
An estimated 5,300 gallons of crude oil was discharged from the Harvest Pipeline Company’s pipeline after a subcontractor for Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company tracked over it with a marsh excavator while performing restoration activities.
The vessel’s owner contracted ECM Maritime Services, an oil response organization, to manage clean-up operations.
To date, 147 personnel, 36 boats, 11 skimmers, and more than 12,000 feet of hard-boom have been deployed to contain and recover the product, the United States Coast Guard said.
Aerial assessments are being conducted of the site and surrounding areas to guide response efforts.
The incident is under investigation.
