The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) will host a Virginia Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Task Force meeting on 22 September in Virginia Beach to discuss the current status of activities offshore Virginia.
The meeting will start at 10:00 a.m. and end around 3:45 p.m. with participation during the meeting limited to Task Force members only. A public question and answer session will be held upon the meeting’s conclusion.
At the meeting, BOEM will discuss the Virginia Offshore Wind Technology Advancement Project (VOWTAP) project, among others, with Dominion providing an update on VOWTAP . The project proposes to install two 6MW wind turbines in federal waters about 24 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach.
WindSentinel buoy deployment and recovery will also be one of the topics for the Task Force. The buoy had been gathering offshore wind data off Virginia Beach, Virginia, and ended its 19-month deployment in July. The device collected information which formed the first publicly accessible database to help improve offshore wind development.
