Japan’s Hokkaido Gas on Friday informed its second liquefied natural gas storage tank recently completed at the Ishikari LNG import terminal on Hokkaido, is set to start operation with the arrival of first cargo over the weekend.
The second LNG storage tank enables the Ishikari terminal to unload the entire carrier without having to unload at two ports like its was the case previously, due to the lack of storage capacity.
Hokkaido Gas said in its statement that the addition of the second storage tank enables a more stable operation and a diversification of the facility’s LNG procurement.
With the addition of the 200,000kl storage tank to the 180,000kl storage tank in operation, the total storage capacity has reached 380,000kl.
Earlier in June, Hokkaido Electric Power informed it has started construction of the fourth LNG storage tank at the terminal.
The first two storage tanks are owned by Hokkaido Gas while Hokkaido Electric owns the third and the fourth LNG tank with a capacity of 230,000kl each.
