Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft, Germany’s largest port operator on the Baltic Sea that runs the public ports of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck, and Lübeck Port Authority signed a letter of intent with Russia’s LNG Gorskaya to set up LNG bunkering facilities.
Under the deal, the companies plan to set up a barge-based floating LNG storage unit within Germany’s Port of Lübeck in the next twelve months, Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft said in a statement.
The concept also includes a small LNG bunkering vessel and a truck loading facility, the statement reads.
Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft, in coordination with the Lübeck Port Authority and the Hanseatic City of Lübeck, will now look for a suitable location for the bunkering project where it would not interrupt the daily operations at the port.
The Port of Lübeck is the most southwesterly transhipment centre on the Baltic and performs the function of a hub for the transport corridors between Southern, Western and Central Europe and the Baltic economic area.
