Imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by South Korea, the world’s second-largest buyer of the chilled fuel, dropped 7 percent year-on-year in August, according to the customs data.
South Korea imported 1.97 million mt of LNG in August, as compared to 2.12 million mt in the corresponding period in 2015.
The country paid about US$649 million for August imports, down 34.3 percent on year, the data showed.
Most of the August imports came from Qatar (824,988 tonnes), up by 7.5 percent as compared to August in 2015.
The rest of South Korea’s LNG imports in August were sourced from Australia, Indonesia, Oman, Malaysia, Brunei, and Russia.
To remind, state-owned Kogas that handles almost all of the LNG imports into South Korea said last week its sales volume rose 5.6 percent in August to 2.20 million mt.
