The US Bureau of Energy Management (BOEM) is holding the Virginia Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Task Force meeting today at Virginia Beach to discuss the current status of activities offshore Virginia.

Participation during the meeting will be limited to Task Force members only. Task Force is an intergovernmental group, including federal officials and elected state, local, and tribal officials, or designated member representatives.

A public question and answer session will be held upon the meeting’s conclusion.

At the meeting, BOEM will discuss the Virginia Offshore Wind Technology Advancement Project (VOWTAP) project, among others, with Dominion providing an update on VOWTAP . The project proposes to install two 6MW wind turbines in federal waters about 24 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach.

WindSentinel buoy deployment and recovery will also be one of the topics for the Task Force. The buoy had been gathering offshore wind data off Virginia Beach, Virginia, and ended its 19-month deployment in July. The device collected information which formed the first publicly accessible database to help improve offshore wind development.
