Following a fatal helicopter accident offshore Angola on Monday in which four people died and two were missing, the helicopter’s type has been revealed.
When it crashed , the helicopter was bound for Chevron-operated Tombua-Landana platform, offshore Cabinda, carrying five passengers and a pilot. Angola’s Angonoticias reported on Tuesday that all the six people had died; two expatriates and four Angolans.
A Chevron’s spokesperson told Offshore Energy Today on Tuesday that “search and rescue operations have been mobilized; currently, there are 19 marine vessels and three helicopters involved in the efforts”.
According to info available on the Aviation Safety Network (ASN), a website that keeps track of aviation accidents where the information is added by the network’s users, the helicopter that crashed was of a Bell 430 type owned and operated by Heli Malongo, an air charter operator headquartered in Angola.
Based on the Bell 230 type, the Bell 430 was built by the American aerospace manufacturer Bell Helicopter.
Offshore Energy Today has reached out to Bell Helicopter seeking confirmation of these reports. The company was not immediately available for comment.
