Robbers Fire Upon Crew aboard Anchored Boxship

Six robbers armed with guns boarded and fired upon the duty crew onboard an anchored containership while the vessel was at the Conakry Anchorage in Guinea, according to the International Maritime Bureau’s (IMB) piracy reporting center.

The Master activated the SSAS alert, raised the alarm and locked the accommodation, however, the robbers gained access into the ship by breaking the bridge wing windows.

After taking the crew hostage the robbers ransacked and looted every crew cabin, stole crew personal belongings and the ship’s cash in the incident which occurred on September 21.

The IMB Piracy Reporting Centre said that the individuals escaped the anchored ship afterwards, adding that the Guinea Navy responded to the alert and boarded the boxship.

All crewmembers aboard the vessel were reported safe.
