France’s National Maritime School (the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Maritime or ENSM) has just welcomed the first class of a new course focused on offshore systems, including systems used for offshore renewable energy projects.

The course, titled ”Deployment and maintenance of offshore systems”, is being held in Nantes and it aims to train engineers in the specificities of offshore renewable energies.

ENSM started the course a year earlier than planned, due to a continued evolution within the offshore renewable energy sector.

Recruited after three years of scientific studies, the students will study two years to qualify as engineers.

The course will provide a general knowledge of the maritime sector, including environmental protection and risk management systems, regulations and labour law, business English, but also give students precise technical knowledge.

The course addresses in particular the deployment of offshore installations, industrial maintenance, exploitation of offshore renewable energies, production and transportation streamlining, offshore foundations and structures, etc.

This new course was launched by ENSM in partnership with the major industry players of the region, including EDF-EN, STX France, DCNS, and GE.
