DeepOcean has completed 2016 cable route clearance works at Middleton Sands, Haysham, UK, prior to 2017 export cable landfall pull-in operations for DONG Energy’s 660MW Walney Extension offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea.

107 targets were investigated with a total of 47 glider poles recovered, DeepOcean said.

A selection of glider poles were donated to Barrow Maritime Museum for public display.

DeepOcean won the contract to provide installation and trenching works for Walney Extension in October 2015.

The company’s scope of works includes route engineering as well as the installation and trenching of a total of 136 km offshore export cables and a 23 km interlink cable.

The company will use the recently delivered Maersk Connector to install subsea cables at the site.

The cables will be pulled ashore near Haysham and will link the two offshore substation platforms at the wind farm.

The Walney Extension offshore wind farm is being built 9 kilometres off the Cumbrian Coast and is expected to be completed in 2019. The wind farm consists of the 330MW Walney Extension East and the 330MW Walney Extension West . The two sites will feature up to 90 turbines combined, and two offshore substations.
