The Panama Authority (ACP) has reversed its decision to prohibit LNG carrier to bunker fuel while at anchorages of the Panama Canal.
In its advisory to shipping agents, owners and operators, ACP informed that with immediate effect, LNG vessels will be permitted to receive bunkers at the Panama Canal.
However, the operations can be carried out only within the explosives area of the Pacific anchorage on a space-available basis.
It was also stressed that bunkering operations are not to interfere with the vessel’s schedule to transit the canal.
The first LNG carrier to transit the expanded Panama Canal was the 161,870-cbm Maran Gas Apollonia, chartered by the Hague-based LNG giant Shell in July this year.
