Alimerka, the Spanish supermarket chain, added 20 liquefied natural gas-fueled Scania trucks to its transport fleet.

According to the company’s statement, each truck would cut 40 tons of CO2 annually, compared to the standard diesel vehicles.

The trucks will be provided by Scania in a transaction valued at €3 million (US$3.3 million).

Each vehicle, equipped with two LNG tanks enabling it to travel 1000 kilometers between stops, will be deployed in city locations in Asturias and Castilla León and Galicia.

Alimerka will refuel its fleet at a dedicated LNG fueling facility at its logistics center in Lugo de Llanera.
