Statoil has been hit by another incident on one of its platforms offshore Norway.
According to Aftenbladet, a Norwegian business news website, an alarm went off on a night from Thursday to Friday on the Gullfaks A platform with 194 workers on board.
The website also reported that the alarm went off after the smoke had been spotted coming out of a fan room. However, the situation was normalized soon.
This is the second incident for Statoil on the same platform and another one in a line of incidents that had happened offshore Norway on Statoil-operated installations. To remind, Statoil had to temporarily shut down production from its Gullfaks A platform in October after a gas alarm had sounded.
Offshore Energy Today has reached out to Statoil seeking confirmation and further details about the incident.
A spokesperson for the Norwegian oil giant confirmed the smoke from a fan room resulted in mustering of the emergency response organization on Gullfaks A at 00:42 last night. The spokesperson added that situation normalized at 01:56. No one was injured and operations were not affected.
The main Gullfaks field lies in block 34/10 in the northern part of the Norwegian North Sea. It has been developed with three large concrete production platforms. The Gullfaks A platform began production on December 22, 1986, with Gullfaks B following on February 29, 1988, and the C platform on November 4, 1989.
