Claudio Descalzi, CEO of the Italian oil and gas company Eni, on Monday held talks with the president of Mozambique, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi.
The development of Mozambique’s Area 4 was the major subject of the discussions, as the company recently approved the investment plan for the Coral South project, in the deep waters of the Rovuma Basin, Eni’s statement reads.
In addition, Eni and the government of Mozambique in October signed a 20-year deal with UK-based BP for the supply of liquefied natural gas from the Coral FLNG project.
During his visit to Mozambique, Descalzi met with the country’s prime minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, the minister of mineral resources, Letícia Klemens, and the president of the state company ENH Omar Mithá.
Eni, together with ENH and in partnership with Statoil and Sasol, obtained in October 2015 the exploration and development rights for the offshore block A-5A, in the Angoche area, in the deep waters of Zambezi’s northern Basin.
Both companies are also partners in the Area 4 where 85 Tcf of gas have been discovered.
Eni is the operator of Area 4 with a 50 percent indirect interest owned through Eni East Africa, which holds a 70 percent stake in Area 4.
The other concessionaires are Galp Energia, Kogas and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), each owning a 10 percent stake. CNPC owns a 20 percent indirect interest in Area 4 through Eni East Africa.
