Perth-based Liquefied Natural Gas Limited on Thursday informed that the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission denied a request for rehearing of its authorization of the Magnolia LNG project.
In April, Magnolia LNG has been granted authorization to site, construct and operate the Magnolia LNG terminal in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana.
Subsequent to the authorization, Sierra Club filed a request for rehearing, however, in its statement on Thursday, LNG Limited said the request has been denied on the basis that “recent decisions from U.S. federal appeals courts that have found FERC’s approach is proper and consistent with U.S. Supreme Court precedent.”
Following FERC’s decision, the U.S. Department of Energy is clear to continue processing Magnolia LNG’s pending application for LNG exports to countries that do not have a free trade agreement with the United States.
LNG Limited is currently completing the marketing of Magnolia LNG’s offtake capacity as it works its way through financing and into construction.
The proposed Magnolia LNG facility in the Lake Charles District, Louisiana, would have up to four trains each with a liquefaction capacity of 2 mtpa or more, two 160,000-cbm storage tanks, ship, barge and truck loading facilities and supporting infrastructure.
