An offshore worker has died in an accident aboard a North Sea platform, offshore UK.
According to available information, the worker employed aboard a Perenco-run platform died after an incident on Tuesday, December 5.
Norfolk Eastern Daily Press has managed to obtain a statement from a Perenco spokesperson, who confirmed the fatal incident happened on Tuesday on the Perenco 23A gas platform located north east of Bacton, UK. Perenco is an oil and gas company with a number of offshore gas fields in the North Sea. Perenco’s gas production in the North Sea is around 72.000 boepd.
Offshore Energy Today has reached out to Perenco, UK’s Health and Safety Executive, and Norfolk Police.
Perenco responded:” We are working closely with the Health & Safety Executive and other relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances in which a man died after an incident yesterday on board our 23A gas platform in the southern North Sea. The platform, 70 miles off the coast of Norfolk, has been shut down and gas supplies halted. We are doing all we can to support the man’s family in these difficult times.”
In an email sent to Offshore Energy Today, a Norfolk Police spokesperson said a joint investigation has been launched with the Health and Safety Executive “following the death of a man on an offshore platform yesterday.”
“Officers were called at 12.55pm to reports that a man had been flown to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with serious injuries but sadly died later. At this stage it is being treated as an industrial incident and enquiries are underway to establish the events leading up to the man’s death,” the spokesperson said.
A HSE communication manager has confirmed the investigation is underway.
