President and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute, Jack Gerard, urged the former Texas governor Rick Perry to make LNG a top priority at the Department of Energy, following the latter’s nomination for the post of secretary of energy.

“The United States is leading the world in the production and refining of oil and natural gas and in the reduction of carbon emissions, which are near 20-year lows,” said Gerard. “In order to continue our nation’s leadership on these important issues, we need to pursue policies that put certainty back into the regulatory process.”

Gerard noted that as the former governor of Texas, Rick Perry is familiar with the importance of the energy production on the U.S. economy, calling on him to use the opportunity to “encourage increased exports of domestically produced natural gas.”

President-elect Donald Trump nominated Rick Perry as secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy, noting that the administration intends on taking advantage of the U.S. natural resource deposits, and that Perry, during his time as Texas governor, created a favorable business climate for development.
