Prosafe, an owner and operator of semi-submersible accommodation rigs known as flotels, has received a contract extension for one of its units from Aker BP.
Aker BP, made by merging Det norske and BP Norge, extended the charter of the Safe Zephyrus semi-submersible accommodation rig at the Ivar Aasen project in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
Prosafe said on Friday that the 10 day option extends on site operations through January 2017 and has a total value of approximately $1.7 million.
The vessel was initially hired to work for Det norske, now Aker BP, during the completion and start-up phase of the Ivar Aasen development until December 2016.
The Ivar Aasen field has been developed using a production, drilling accommodation platform on a steel jacket and a jack-up rig for well drilling and completion. Production at the field is expected to begin in December this year.
The Safe Zephyrus was constructed at SembMarine’s Jurong Shipyard in Singapore and delivered to its owner in 2016.
The unit has a GVA 3000E design and is equipped with a DP3 system as well as 12-point mooring arrangement. It can accommodate 450 persons in single man cabins.
