Offshore workers at the Brazilian state-owned oil company Petrobras working in the Campos Basin have decided to take strike action over a pay dispute.

The trade union in the country said the workers in the Campos Basin decided for a 24-hour work stoppage on Friday, December 23, 2016, which may evolve into an indefinite strike.

According to Reuters, the workers rejected the proposal from Petrobras of a 6 pct rise in wages questioning whether the proposed changes to the workers’ contracts would allow the company to reduce the number of hours worked.

The Campos Basin is the country’s largest oil producing area which brings in around 60 pct of Brazilian oil.
