Japanese manufacturer of heavy, industry equipment IHI Corporation has delivered a drillship hull to a Singaporean customer.
The hull, which was constructed at IHI Aichi Works, was delivered on December 17, 2016.
According to the company, the drillship, ordered by an unnamed client from Singapore, is designed for the use in exploratory, completion and maintenance drilling of offshore oil and gas fields.
The delivered drillship hull has the length of 242 meters, breadth of 46 meters, and depth of 19.6 meters. Drilling equipment will be installed on the hull in Singapore and the drillship will be completed after the commissioning.
IHI received this order in FY3/2014. It was the first drillship project for both the customer and the Japanese builder.
The company’s Aichi Works also built an FPSO hull for the Premier-operated Catcher field in the UK sector of the North Sea. The FPSO hull construction experienced a delay back in 2015 affected by IHI’s drillship operations that had occupied the main dry dock.
