Siemens has developed a simulation tool which allows its technicians to practice installing blades on offshore wind turbines prior to heading out on live projects.
The company says that practising installing blades in virtual world reduces installation times and costs as the simulation tool eliminates the need for on-site training and allows technicians to experience all known scenarios they might come across while working offshore.
This simulation tool is just a first step in creating a virtual world which would allow technicians to experience the entire process of installing an offshore wind turbine prior to going on a live project, according to Allan T. Jepsen, Head of Offshore Site Training, Siemens Wind Power.
