The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District announced yesterday that maintenance dredging of the Cumberland River will begin January 9, 2017.

According to the Corps, channel maintenance is set at the river mile 102-104 near Cumberland City Island January 9 through March 31, 2017.

During the works, around 250,000 CY of dredge material will be removed from the navigational channel.

USACE also added that mariners should expect to see two to three tow boats and deck barges with cranes, and one or two crew vessels and material barges moving within the work area.

The contract for Cumberland River maintenance dredging was awarded in September to Amherst Madison, Inc. of Charleston (WV).
