Earlier this month, Omani Port of Salalah welcomed the 19,500 dwt MSC Eloane, one of the largest container vessels in the world.

With a gross tonnage of 193,000 tons, the ultra large container vessel (ULCV) features a length of 399.9 meters and a width of 58.8 meters.

The boxship was delivered to Norwegian ship owner Ocean Yield ASA from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) in September 2016.

Following its delivery, the 202,000 dwt vessel commenced a 15-year bareboat charter with Swiss-based Mediterranean Shipping Company.

MSC Eloane is the third ship to be delivered in a series of six mega containerships that Ocean Yield owns in a joint venture with private shipowner Quantum Pacific Shipping, a part of Quantum Pacific Group.
