Maersk Drilling has secured a one well contract with Repsol Colombia for the deepwater semi-submersible, Mærsk Developer which has been stacked for almost a year now.

The contract covers the drilling of the Siluro-1 Exploration Prospect well, estimated to have a duration of 42 days. The estimated contract value is $12 million, including mobilization and demobilization.

“The offshore drilling market remains extremely challenging, and therefore I am proud that we in Maersk Drilling continue to be able to secure contracts for our rigs. This contract marks a great opportunity for Maersk Drilling to further build on our good relationship with Repsol, and we look forward to delivering the well safely and efficiently for our client,” says Michael Reimer Mortensen , Head of Global Sales at Maersk Drilling.

The Siluro-1 well is situated off the western coast of the Caribbean and operations are expected to start in the second quarter of 2017.

The Mærsk Developer is currently warm-stacked offshore Port Fourchon in the US Gulf of Mexico and has now started preparation work for the new contract.

“A pre-planned reactivation process for the Mærsk Developer has now commenced in order to ensure a smooth start-up of operations and excellent performance delivery. With Maersk Drilling’s current stacking strategy, the main focus is to ensure the ability to reactivate our idle rigs in the safest and most efficient manner possible,” Michael Reimer Mortensen concludes.

To remind the rig had previously worked for Statoil in the Gulf of Mexico. Following completion of a six-year contract with the Maersk Developer arrived to Port Fourchon, Lousiana, in February 2016, where it was stacked awaiting new contract.
