In the first quarter of 2017, the Spanish Government will carry out a new renewable energy tender and has submitted a regulatory proposal to the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) to be able to incorporate 3,000MW of new renewable energy into the electricity system through a competitive tender.
The tender will be carried out as a mechanism of competitive and technologically neutral auctions, where different technologies can compete on equal terms, allowing the most efficient and cost-saving projects for consumers to win. The new projects will have to be executed before 31 December 2019.
The regulatory proposal, consisting of a Royal Decree and a Ministerial Order, submitted by the government to the CNMC regulates the procedure for auctions and the allocation of the most competitive projects.
The procedure will be specified by a Resolution of the Secretary of State for Energy and will establish detailed rules of the auction and the specific date of the call.
Within the 3GW of renewables, 1,400MW of wind, 1,400MW of photovoltaic and 200MW of other energy projects would be added.
