Gondan Delivers New Research Vessel to Norwegian IMR

Spanish Gondan Shipyard has delivered oceanographic research vessel ‘Dr Fridtjof Nansen’ to the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research (IMR).

After recently completing the sea trials, the vessel is heading to Bergen, its port of registry.

The vessel, of Skipsteknisk ST 369 design, is 74,5 meters long and has a beam of 17.4 meters.

The vessel, outfitted according to the requirements of ICES 209, will mainly operate in tropic and sub-tropic areas in developing countries, Gondan noted.

The vessel is capable to undertake activities focused on marine ecosystem studies, data collection for studies and understanding of climate change effects, mapping of marine biodiversity, measurements of CO2 and the resulting acidification of the oceans, measurements of oxygen and de-oxygenation of the oceans and studies of pollution.
