Norway’s offshore safety agency, the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA), has confirmed that last week’s fire incident on board the Deepsea Atlantic rig is under investigation.
The rig is under a contract with the Norwegian oil company Statoil on the Johan Sverdrup field, offshore Norway. The incident occurred last Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the safety agency told Offshore Energy Today: “I can confirm that we were notified about a fire in the top drive on Deepsea Atlantic on 5 January 2017.”
The spokesperson further said the fire was extinguished by the deluge and fire hoses. The owner of the rig, Odfjell Drilling, is investigating the incident.
Offshore Energy Today on Monday reached out to the rig owner and Statoil seeking further details about the incident. We are yet to receive any response.
The Deepsea Atlantic is a semi-submersible drilling rig of the MODU GVA 7500 type, operated by Odfjell Drilling. The rig was completed in 2009, registered in Norway, and is classified by DNV GL.
