Songa Offshore has informed that its Cat D rig Songa Encourage is undergoing repairs in Norway, following water leakage on the rig in early January.

To remind, on January 2, 2017, a water ingress was observed in a pump room on board the semi-submersible rig Songa Encourage.

At the time of the incident, the drilling unit was working for Statoil on the Heidrun field off Norway but it was not in operations due to weather. There were 79 people on board the unit.

The drilling contractor said on Wednesday that, following the water ingress into a pump room, Songa Encourage is currently close to Kristiansund, Norway, for equipment overhaul and repair which are progressing on schedule.

The rig is expected to be back in operations in early February 2017, Songa said.

A DP-3 or moored harsh environment semi-sub Songa Encourage was designed for year around drilling, completion, testing and intervention operations. It is equipped for up to 500 meters water depth, and the design allows for future deepwater and arctic operations which can be implemented by minor upgrades.
