Qatar Petroleum (QP) has chartered the Al Doha jack-up rig, owned by Qatari rig operator Gulf Drilling International (GDI), a subsidiary of Gulf International Services.
According to data from VesselsValue, Qatar Petroleum hired GDI’s semi-sub rig for one year and four months starting January 23, 2017, until May 22, 2018. The rig will be operating for QP under a dayrate of $68,000.
The company has three more offshore rigs under contract with Qatar Petroleum, the Halul, the Al Zubarah, and the Dukhan. All three rigs are under a five-year contract.
Al Doha is a Mitsubishi MD T76J-VIII self-elevating cantilever jack-up drilling rig with three triangular independent legs. It was built in 1981 by Hiroshima Shipyard & Engine Works and originally named the Gulf-1. Major repair, modification and upgrade work on the rig was done by Nakilat – Keppel Offshore & Marine in 2011.
In the process of renaming all GDI offshore rigs to the names of the most popular and historical cities in Qatar, Gulf-1 name was changed to Al Doha, Qatar’s cultural and commercial center.
Offshore Energy Today has reached out to Qatar Petroleum and Gulf Drilling International seeking confirmation and further details about the rig’s contract. The companies were not immediately available for comment.
