UK oil giant BP has launched a video of its Thunder Horse South Expansion project, located in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, sharing the details about the project.

According to BP’s Project Manager Steve Raymer , the Thunder Horse South Expansion adds a new four-slot manifold to create a new drill center, two miles south of the Thunder Horse platform.

The company brought the project online earlier this week. The expansion adds a new subsea production system roughly two miles to the south of the existing Thunder Horse which is a collection point for wells connected to the Thunder Horse platform by two 11,000-foot flowlines installed on the seabed in late 2016.

The expansion project is expected to boost production at the platform by an estimated 50,000 gross barrels of oil equivalent per day, further increasing output at one of the largest oil fields in the Gulf of Mexico.

“It is about making the most out of what you already have,” BP’s Richard Morrison , Regional President – Gulf of Mexico, said.
