Five more foreign flagged vessels were detained in UK ports during January 2017 after failing Port State Control (PSC) inspection, the country’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) revealed.
The ships in question include Skyline Barge 17, Sea Emperor, Fanfare, Salix and BBC Coral.
The Netherlands-flagged Skyline Barge 17, a deck cargo pontoon, was detained at Portsmouth on January 31, after an inspection found several deficiencies with three grounds for detention.
The second ship, Sea Emperor, which flies the flag of the Marshall Islands, was arrested at Fawley on January 28. Seafarers on board the chemical tanker were found to be without warm clothing for days and their wages unpaid for three months, Catholic charity Apostleship of the Seas (AoS) informed.
General cargo vessel Fanfare was put under detention at Liverpool on January 16. The Antigua & Barbuda-flagged ship was released two days later.
Another general cargo vessel arrested on January 16 is Salix. Detained at Ellesmere Port, the Cook Islands-flagged ship was released on January 20.
The fifth vessel, the Antigua & Barbuda-flagged cargo ship BBC Coral, was put under detention at Tyne on January 9 and released two days later.
Four vessels remained arrested from previous months.
A total of six ships remained under detention at the end of January, according to MCA.
