The UK-based Coda Octopus informed that the Dutch company Van Oord has completed ground improvement project for Kuwait National Petroleum Company’s (KNPC) site for the oil refining plant and an LNG import terminal.
The project, which started in 2014, involved the reclamation of 65 million cubic meters of sand and extensive soil improvement, deploying Coda Octopus’ 3D sonar, Echoscope.
This project comprises land reclamation for the construction of a port and the first phase of an LNG import facility. Part of the scope is the construction of revetments and breakwaters, the statement reads.
It was reported in March last year that a consortium of Hyundai E&C, Hyundai Engineering and Korea Gas Corporation (Kogas) consortium has won a KRW3.6 trillion (US$2.93 billion) contract to build a liquefied natural gas plant in Kuwait.
The consortium has been contracted to build eight LNG storage tanks and the docking facilities at the Al-Zour LNG import terminal, 90 kilometers south of Kuwait’s capital, Kuwait City.
The construction of the facility is scheduled to last 58 months and be completed in 2020.
