U.S. Coast Guard crews have begun salvage efforts to salvage a ship which ran aground near the Cameron Jetties, offshore Louisiana.
The Coast Guard said on Wednesday that the Vessel Traffic Service at Port Arthur overheard that the 120-foot offshore supply vessel Miss Lynda , had run aground.
Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Lake Charles incident response personnel deployed with Coast Guard Station Lake Charles boat crews to investigate the damage and determine the best method of salvage.
There were no injuries to the four passengers and three crew aboard the ship, and no pollution was reported. The salvage company is still being determined. The four passengers were transited off of the ship by the utility ship Sally D while the three crew members remained on the Miss Lynda.
According to reports from the U.S. Coast Guard, the ship was carrying construction cargo and had 4,300 gallons of fuel and 100 gallons of oil products aboard. There was no indication as to where the vessel was headed. Damage to the ship was reported 5 feet above the waterline, and the ship did not take on any water.
Also, the accident had no impact on traffic in the Calcasieu Ship Channel.
The 1989-built offshore supply vessel Miss Lynda is owned by Abe’s Boat Rental and is certified for transfer of 67 passengers.
