The LNG Blue Corridors project, four years after it started, has already surpassed a number of targets set initially.
The project will soon reach a number of 150 heavy-duty LNG-fueled trucks operating on the European roads, 50 more than the initial target of 100 trucks.
During the period, 43 fleet operators have opted to use LNG as fuel for its vehicles with the German fleet operator Meyer Logistics running a fleet more than 20 LNG trucks.
European Natural & bio Gas Vehicle Association (NGVA Europe), expects some 400,000 gas-fueled trucks on EU roads by 2030, which will enable the achievement of EU goals of decarbonising the transport sector with a 30 percent reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030 and 60 percent by 2050.
As part of the project, Italy has increased the number of LNG fueling stations up to seven with the latest starting operations in December last year in Gera Lario (Lombardia). The station followed the inauguration of Eni’s second LNG filling station in Tuscany, in Pontedera.
By the end of 2017, Italy plans to have at least 20 LNG fueling stations in service.
